What unfolded last Saturday, February 18, 2012, was nothing less than amazing as 111 athletes from all over the country and the rest of the world had their strength and endurance tested by the tough course going to the summit of Mt. Ugo and back up to the Baranggay Hall of Tinongdan. This event was greatly supported by DOT-CAR, Province of Benguet, Municipality of Itogon and Baranggay Tinongdan, as well as sponsored by Summit Drinking Water, Burlington, Salomon, ROX and in partnership with the Cordillera Conservation Trust.

Please be prepared for some light showers and bring your rain gears on your trip to Benguet

See you at Elizabeth Hotel (Gibraltar Road, Baguio) on Feb 17, 4pm for the welcome dinner, kit claiming & race briefing (very important, all are encouraged to attend).
For those who can't attend & will go straight to Baguio on Feb 18, see you at the DOT-CAR office 4am (jeepney pick up point to race site). Please be there earlier to claim your race kits.

Good news! PSA has decided to hold a one-day price rollback for the Akyathlon registration!
On February 9, 2012, we will be holding a special Race Briefing for participants and registrants at the ROX Ground Floor in Bonifacio High Street. On this day, anyone who still wishes to register may do so at a discounted price of Php 2,000!
For those who have already registered, please come join us if you wish to know the WHATs and WHAT NOTs on race day! We have updated our rules for this event, which includes a penalty area for racers.

PSA has also received confirmation that officials from Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn. Bhd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Sabah Tourism Board, will come and witness the inaugural Skyrace of the Philipines. The Sabah Tourism Board has successfully organized the Mt. Kinabalu International Climbathon for the past 25 years. They are bringing over some of their best runners to take part in the Pilipinas Akyathlon.
The International Skyrunning Federation (ISF) has also updated their website to include the Pilipinas Akyathlon in their list of events! Check out their new website at www.skyrunning.com

As the event date draws near for the first ever International Skyrace in the Philippines, the Pilipinas Akyathlon has attracted runners from Malaysia, Kenya, Australia, UK and Poland as well as some distinguished local multi -sport athletes in the likes of Marites Bitbit, Ige Lopez, Leo Oracion, and Thumbie Remigio.
The organizers will cap the registration to 200 runners, to take into consideration the carrying capacity of the mountain. So register while you can and be a part of SKYRUNNING history in the Philippines!

Officials of PSA and representatives of its partners: DOT and CCT were in Baguio recently to launch the first ever International Skyrace here in the Philippines. The "Kapihan" Press Conference in Baguio was attended by numerous media outfits. SHaring with you below some of the write-ups of the event

Cordillera native Marcelo Bautista asserted dominance in the first Pilipinas Akyathlon held in Tuba, Benguet. Bautista led from the get-go and crossed the finish line in 2:24:01. Closely following Bautista were Joel Bengtay and Wigan Taguyongon who clocked in at 2:25:24 and 2:27:25, respectively.
Anna Liza Maraan claimed the top spot on the distaff side, finishing in 3:43:50.
Other familiar faces in the skyrace include Francis Cosgrave and Thumbie Remigio.
Pilipinas Akyathlon Benguet is the first skyrace (high altitude race) organized by the Philippine Skyrunning Association.
